America’s largest food distributing company United natural foods also known as UNFI was just hit by a cyber attack. The company is based in Rhode Island. It is distributing products both fresh and frozen in 53 centres. The product ranges from 30,000 locations to many more within the United States Canada and other supermarket chains all across the e-commerce universe.

Apart from that the company also supplies its natural products to the retailers food services and natural product shops. Now UNFI is acting like a primary and sole distributor for the Whole Foods company like Amazon. And it’s making a revenue of 31 billion as per the report of August 2024. The suppliers and employees in this company are more than 28,000.

In the recent event of terms the company did a press conference at the website and filing happened with the help of US security and exchange commission. According to the company there was a cyber attack on June 5. After which the company needed to shut down some systems. As a result, many of the customers were deprived of their orders.

In order to protect itself, all of the systems of the company were shut down because they have containment response plans and measures. Although they managed to protect many of the data , the company was still unable to distribute and fulfil orders of many of the customers.

According to the US food giant there will come disruptions in fulfilling the orders. They have given a Headstart to the customers so they find time to look out for the breach. Law enforcement and authorities were informed as well as the cyber security personnel from the external law system were also hired so they can initiate investigation of this horrible incident.

We still do not know if the attacker was able to access any data from the network of the company or if there were any ransom, but the company is still not talking about any of the nature of the attack.

Although the details are unknown to the general public, according to the company they are trying to find out what kind of damage has been done. This is not the first time any food company was disrupted and preached before UNFI Walmart and its warehouse supermarket Sam’s club was also Trying to find out the responsible bad guys behind their beach.

As well as the JBS food also came under a ransom attack and they had to pay $11 million to the attackers. The main purpose of attackers is still unknown to us. We do not know if there is want to steal the data or want to gain access to the food through these attacks. We will surely know some more after the investigations find any conclusion.
